“When we are convinced of our goals, we have to fight for them, even if they seem insurmountable, because we must never lose sight of the fact that if we don’t try, we will regret it. It’s better to do something you love, even if it means making sacrifices. It’s worth it.”

Marie Bagi was born in Lausanne in 1988. In 2008, she enrolled at La Sapienza in Rome to study art history, a subject that has fascinated her since childhood. It was during this period that she first became aware of art through her museum visor, and particularly through her discovery of Sandro Botticelli’s (1445-1510) landmark work at the Uffizi Museum in Florence, ‘The Birth of Venus’.

During her studies, she quickly realised that most of the artists she studied were men, which constitutes a societal problem. At UNIL for her master’s degree, she dedicated her dissertation to Louise Bourgeois, and later her PhD to women artists, in particular Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010) and Camille Claudel (1864-1943) and the question of intimacy. Her doctoral thesis will be published in two volumes in 2019 under the title L’Art au féminin.

In 2018, when she obtained her doctorate, she created her project for women artists, which took shape as an association in 2020 under the name “Espace Artistes Femmes”, the trademark for which was registered the same year as an innovative project. The association includes 80 women artists who can exhibit, exchange ideas and show that their art comes from the heart.

In 2022, as a new member of the CLAFV committee (Centre Liaisons des Associations Féminines Vaudoises), she was chosen to chair the Prix Égalité, which reaffirmed an association’s commitment to equality in society.
